National Heritage Board Thought-Leadership Event on NFTs

The Culture Story co-founder Ning Chong was invited by the National Heritage Board Singapore to participate in a closed-door discussion on the emergence of NFTs and their role in shaping the National Collection. The event brought together representatives from Singapore’s leading art institutions and museums.
Joining a panel of experts—including Dr David Tan (Professor at NUS Law and Deputy Director of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and the Law), technologist Carlos Nicholas Fernandes, art writer and @NFTAsia founder Clara Peh, and NFT artist Speak Cryptic—Ning shared her insights on NFTs from her perspective as a collector, art consultant, and gallerist.

The Culture Story co-founder Ning Chong moderated the panel “In Retrospect: 10 Years of SAW” as part of the SAW 2022 Dialogues. She was joined by Emi Eu (Executive Director, STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery Singapore and Project Director, S.E.A. Focus), Low Eng Teong (Deputy Chief Executive Officer, National Arts Council), and Magnus Renfrew (Founder of ARTHQ Group, Co-Founder of ART SG).
The panel reflected on a decade of SAW, examining Singapore’s position as a vibrant arts hub within the region. From a commercial perspective, the speakers shared insights on what makes a successful art week—who benefits most, how to balance artistic quality with programme quantity, and whether the current model is sustainable. In the context of the pandemic, they also discussed how Art Week might evolve and what the future holds.

The official opening of FLESH MATTERS took place on Saturday, 14 July 2018, including a special VIP dinner for artist’s friends and family, art collectors, patrons and supporters of The Culture Story and artcommune gallery. There were good food and good conversations including heartfelt sharing by pioneers like Mr Koh Seow Chuan and Mr Choy Weng Yang. Over 250 guests turned out on Saturday, so a big thank you to everyone!

Singapore: Starting Young

The Culture Story co-founder Ning Chong spoke at “Singapore: Starting Young”, part of Singapore Art Week Conversations held at The Fullerton Hotel. This year’s theme, Considering Collecting, explored perspectives on the art market, buying, collecting, and artistic production from a Southeast Asian lens.
Alongside Ning, the panel featured gallerist Stephanie Fong, collectors Bryan Tan, and artist Ruben Pang. Over 40 guests attended the lively discussion on collecting practices and fostering the next generation of collectors in Singapore.

Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore (OGSS) Annual Oration

On 1 November 2017, founders of The Culture Story, Ning and Mr. Chong were invited to be Orators for the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore (OGSS) Annual Oration held at Regent Hotel Singapore.
Ning and Mr. Chong shared their vast knowledge and experience about the art world with the audience, introducing important historical moments and works in art history, the significant milestones in the evolution of Singapore’s art scene, as well as discussing their personal experience in collecting and the vision for The Culture Story.
The OGSS is a professional society representing all obstetricians and gynaecologists in Singapore and aims to promote and maintain high standards of professional conduct and practice for the profession. It is also serves to promote the social integration of members and colleagues through events incorporating education, sports, politics, arts and culture. Every year, OGSS invites an outstanding individual(s) who has made a significant impact on the profession or on society to deliver the oration at the OGSS Annual Oration and Banquet.
