    Meet The Artist: Wong Keen

    Meet The Artist: Wong Keen

One of Singapore’s leading painters, Wong Keen (b. 1942) studied under pioneer artists Liu Kang and Chen Wen Hsi before holding his first solo exhibition at the National Library in 1961. That year, he moved to the United States to study at the Art Students League of New York, becoming the first Singaporean and among the earliest Chinese artists in the post-war American art scene. He later earned the Edward G. McDowell Travelling Scholarship and completed his postgraduate studies at St. Martin’s School of Art in London. Blending Chinese ink aesthetics with Western abstraction, his work spans oil, ink, acrylic, and mixed media. Wong Keen’s work is held in major collections, including the National Art Museum of China, Minnesota State University Art Museum, National Gallery Singapore, and Fullerton Hotel.
