In Search of Lost Time
Presented by The Culture Story
12 July 2022—30 November 2022
The Culture Story proudly marked its 5th anniversary with a special exhibition from the Chong Huai Seng Collection. Showcasing 38 works by 26 artists from Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and Africa, the exhibition was curated around the theme of portraits, faces, heads, figures, and busts, offering a personal glimpse into Chong Huai Seng’s 40-year collecting journey.
Titled In Search of Lost Time, the exhibition drew inspiration from Marcel Proust’s seminal novel, a seven-volume exploration of memory and the search for meaning—echoing Chong’s own journey as a collector.
Featuring diverse media, including paintings, works on paper, and sculptures in bronze, the exhibition spanned early 20th-century artist Henri Gaudier-Brzeska (1891–1915) to contemporary figures like Timothy Curtis (b.1982) and Takashi Murakami (b.1962). Each piece captureed a moment in time, reflecting Chong’s thoughts and emotions before and after acquiring the work.
